NITs – 31 institutes (including NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal, etc.)

  • How can I get admission into an IIT or NIT?

    Admission Process:

Step 1: Appear for JEE Main (for all engineering aspirants)

Step 2: To enter IITs, qualify JEE Main and appear for JEE Advanced

Step 3: Participate in JoSAA counseling for seat allotment in IITs (via JEE Advanced) and NITs (via JEE Main rank)

  • Can NRI students get admission into IITs or NITs?

Yes, but only through JEE Advanced (for IITs) and JEE Main (for NITs). There are no separate NRI quotas in IITs and NITs (except for DASA scheme in NITs for foreign nationals and NRIs – see next question).

  • What is the DASA quota for NITs and who is eligible?

DASA (Direct Admission for Students Abroad) is a special admission scheme for:

NRI / OCI / Foreign students

Based on SAT Subject Test scores (till 2021), but now through JEE Main score

Only NITs, IIITs, and SPAs participate in DASA – not IITs. I-WIN provides dedicated support for DASA applications for Gulf and international students.

  • Which has better placements – IIT or NIT?

Generally, IITs have higher average packages and more international offers. However, top NITs (like Warangal, Trichy, Surathkal) also offer excellent placements in core, software, and R&D sectors.

  • what is fee structures in IITs and NITs?

    Yes.

IITs: ₹2–2.5 Lakhs per year (tuition fee only)

    NITs: ₹1.2–1.5 Lakhs per year

Fee waivers and scholarships are available based on category and income. I-WIN mentors assist in navigating all financial aid opportunities.

  • Is the syllabus same for IIT and NIT entrance exams?

Yes. The JEE Main and Advanced syllabi are based on Class 11 & 12 (CBSE/NCERT) syllabus. However, JEE Advanced questions are more conceptual and application-based, while JEE Main focuses on speed and accuracy

JEE Advanced Focus – Concept mastery, multi-step problem solving, revision camps

Performance dashboards, test analysis, one-on-one mentoring

Full guidance for JoSAA, DASA, CSAB counseling and documentation

  • Can NRI students appear for JEE Main and JEE Advanced?

Yes. NRI (Non-Resident Indian), OCI (Overseas Citizen of India), and PIO students are eligible to appear for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced provided they meet the academic and age eligibility criteria.

  • Do IITs and NITs have a separate NRI quota?

    *No.

IITs do not have any NRI or foreign quota — only regular students qualifying JEE Advanced can get admission.

NITs, IIITs, and SPAs offer DASA quota (Direct Admission for Students Abroad), which is for NRIs and foreign nationals — based on JEE Main ranks (from 2021 onward).*

  • What is the DASA scheme and how is it useful for NRI students?

The DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) scheme allows NRI/OCI/foreign nationals to apply for admission into NITs, IIITs, and other participating institutions using their JEE Main scores (SAT Subject Tests were discontinued in 2021). DASA quota has separate application and higher fee structure. I-WIN provides full DASA counseling support.

  • Where can NRI students take the JEE exam? Can it be written from the UAE?

Yes. NTA provides international JEE Main exam centers, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Muscat, Doha, Riyadh, and others. For JEE Advanced, select centers are available abroad — Dubai is a common choice. I-WIN supports students in choosing the right test center and handling the logistics.

  • What documents do NRI students need to apply for JEE?

    Required documents include:

    Valid passport

    Class 10 & 12 certificates

    Citizenship/Residency proof (for DASA)

    OCI/PIO card if applicable

Photograph and signature (as per NTA specs)

I-WIN helps you upload and verify all documents accurately.

  • How is the counselling process different for NRI students?

For general JEE admissions (IITs or NITs through JEE ranks), students must register for JoSAA counseling like Indian students.
For DASA admissions, students must apply through the DASA portal separately, pay in USD, and participate in a separate round of counselling.

  • What is the fee structure under NRI or DASA quota?

    For DASA quota:

Tuition fee is approx. USD 8,000–10,000 per year
Some NITs offer a CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf) category with reduced fees (similar to Indian students)
IITs follow regular fee structure (₹2–2.5 lakh/year) — no separate NRI quota
I-WIN provides a full fee planning and document checklist for NRI admissions.

  • How does I-WIN support NRI students aiming for IITs and NITs?

At I-WIN, we provide end-to-end support for Gulf/NRI students including:

    Time-zone aligned live classes

JEE Main + Advanced specific test series

    Concept-focused recorded lectures

    DASA + JoSAA counselling assistance

Exam registration, travel advisory, and document help

    One-on-one mentoring for performance improvement

  • Is There a Reduced Cutoff for NRIs to Get into NITs or IITs?

Yes for NITs via DASA/CIWG, but No for IITs

For IIT Admission (via JEE Advanced)

No relaxation or separate cutoff for NRI, OCI, or Gulf students.

Admission to IITs is purely based on JEE Advanced rank

All students (Indian or NRI) are treated equally in JoSAA counselling

IITs do NOT participate in DASA or have an NRI quota

Same eligibility, same cutoff, same rank requirement as Indian students

I-WIN Recommendation: NRI students who want IITs must prepare for JEE Main → JEE Advanced → JoSAA, like all Indian students.

For NIT Admission (via DASA/CIWG – for NRI students)

Yes, there is a separate admission scheme with different merit criteria:

DASA Scheme (Direct Admission for Students Abroad) :

Admission to IITs is purely based on JEE Advanced rank

Based on JEE Main score, but cutoffs are separate from general JoSAA round

Many top NITs accept lower JEE Main scores under DASA quota compared to General Category

Fees are higher (~$8,000–$10,000 per year)

CIWG Quota (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf):

    A sub-category within DASA

For NRI students whose parents work in Gulf countries (UAE, Oman, Kuwait, etc.)

    Same academic eligibility

Much lower fee (same as Indian citizens in NITs – approx. ₹1.5 L/year)

Cutoffs are sometimes relaxed compared to general DASA pool

Seats are limited and only in select NITs/IIITs

I-WIN helps UAE-based parents apply under the CIWG quota accurately with documentation support.
